Our History
As settlers arrived, and started building their sod huts in the prairie wilderness, they felt they could not do without the church and the Word of God. Jevnaker Lutheran Church therefore came into existance on March 27, 1883.

The first pastor was Rev. Bersvend Anderson, but since he lived in Crookston and served twelve congregations, he was not able to come very often and served only one year. The next pastor, Ole K. Weium, was from Twin Valley. Since he lived closer he was able to serve the congregation more frequently.

At first the services were held in sod shanties. Later a farm house was purchased and moved to a piece of land deeded to the congregation in 1889. A church building was constructed and dedicated in 1896. As time went by more of the church members settled on better land farther west, making it increasingly difficult to get to church. So  in 1901 the church was disassembled, piece by piece, and hauled by horse and wagon to its present location and reassembled.

Having been founded by Norwegian Lutherans, the transition from all Norwegian program to English was a gradual process. The confirmation class of 1928 was the last to have their instruction in Norwegian. In 1930 the Ladies Aid began using English in their official records. It wasn't until 1943 that the official minutes of the congregation were last recorded in Norwegian.

For over 125 years, Jevnaker Lutheran Church has continuously upheld the Bible as the verbally inspired, revealed Word of God and the only infallible and authoritative, rule and guide for Christian faith, doctrine and conduct.

Our Mission Statement
The mission of this congregation shall be to point souls to Christ and to strengthen the believers by the preaching of the Word, the administration of the sacraments and the exercise of the gifts of grace.

Therefore, within the environment of loving commitment to one another, we propose to:
  • Share the Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ wherever possible.
  • Invite people to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • Disciple them by:
    • Establishing them in the faith.
    • Encouraging obedience to the Lord in daily living.
    • Training them to share their faith.
    • Helping them to identify their God-given gifts and provide opportunities for them to exercise those gifts in the mission of the church.
    • Equipping them to establish others in their faith.
    • Responding with compassion to the needs of all people.
  • Emphasize the importance of personal and corporate worship.

Our Ministries
Sunday School and Worship

Sunday mornings, throughout the school year, provide an opportunity for all ages to take part in Bible education through our Sunday School classes.
Our Worship Service provides a traditional, yet non-liturgical, worship experience where the proclamation of God's Word is the central focus of our worship. A blend of traditional hymns, and praise and worship choruses, are incorporated into the worship experience. Our order of worship is structured in such a way that we hear God's Word throughout and respond to that Word through prayer, our gifts and music. We believe the worship experience is first and foremost for the purpose of giving praise, honor and glory to our Triune God, and is secondarily for the encouragement, growth and maturity of the worshipper.

Wednesday Bible Study

Every Wednesday evening, throughout the year, the opportunity for Bible Study and prayer is made available. Studies range from a short series on a variety of different topics pertinent to the Christian faith, or may be a Bible book study that will stretch for months.
